Perlite is a naturally occurring volcanic mineral, small black crystal like when mined. It is heated to 1100°C, then explodes like popcorn to form white granules similar to rice bubbles in look.

It is very light, sterile and pH neutral and is best for recycling and non-recycling hydroponic systems. When using with hydroponic coco peat, mix a 25% amount by volume of perlite for better drainage.

For extra aeration use perlite with a good quality potting mix for seed raising and cuttings. In general use with potting mixes to prevent soil compaction and assist drainage. Perlite can be used as a filtering aid as an alternative to diatomaceous earth. Use with Ag-Grow Grow or Ag-Grow Bloom nutrients for superior results.
